A support system plays an essential role throughout your student’s academic journey with Study Abroad – prior to departure, during their stay, and especially after their return to the United States. We strongly encourage you to explore this website and the UO EAP website so that you can further develop the supportive role that your student needs prior to departure, during their stay abroad, and after their return to the United States. (If your student is participating in a private (non-UC) Study Abroad program, please also contact their representative/web page.)
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), students who are over 18 have a legal right to privacy in regards to their educational records. In health or safety emergencies, EAP will communicate immediately with any individuals the student has listed as emergency contacts on EAP application materials. However, be aware that in non-emergency circumstances, EAP is generally prohibited from sharing student information with parents or others, unless the student has given us explicit permission to do so.
