International Education Week, November 17-21, 2008
The OIE is pleased to support International Education Week (IEW), a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries. The week is dedicated to enhancing international awareness across the campus as well as to reinforcing the importance of the exchange of students and scholars across borders.

There are many ways for UCSC campus units to participate in IEW. Units can design activities, events and lectures to celebrate and highlight cultures, international education and exchange opportunities, academic programs and activities at UCSC. For additional ideas and more information about participating, please visit our IEW website at http://oie.ucsc.edu/iew/index.html.

International Friends Program
This innovative program aims to connect EAP alumni with new international students attending UCSC.  The program is designed to enhance the international student's experience by providing an opportunity to build personal connections and a social network that lasts from the time of their arrival through the duration of their stay in Santa Cruz. Additionally, the International Friends Program provides a way for EAP alumni to stay connected to their international experience as well as re-integrate into their lifestyle as a Banana Slug. Sustainability Campaign
OIE is committed to sustainability on both a local and global scale. We aim to promote sustainable office practices (double-sided printing, purchasing, electricity conservation and many more). We are also working on ways to implement sustainable practices in the services we provide from the EAP online application process to this very newsletter. By choosing to use formats that require little to no printing and by making these sustainable choices – we hope to support the amazing work that the UCSC campus as a whole promotes. For more information on campus-wide sustainability efforts, visit the web:

Call for Information on International Activities
OIE maintains a bulletin board at the Classroom Unit Building where we post information of particular interest to international and/or study abroad students. If you are planning an activity that would appeal to international and/or study abroad students, please send your posting requests (including printed materials) to Alice Hancock, intercampus mailstop: International Ed.

OIE supports UCSC's teaching, research and service missions. We aim to inspire the university community to strengthen global understanding by transcending borders and transforming international partnership. OIE is UCSC's intellectual portal to the world and your guide to international resources at UCSC.
