F-1 Student -Required Actions to Maintain your Legal Status

To maintain legal status in the U.S., F-1 students are required to notify the ISSS International Advisor of certain personal and academic changes.

Keep ISSS Informed in changes to...

• Your Name

  Name changes should be done through the Registrar. ISSS will be notified once the change is made.

• Degree and Major Changes

  See your advisor or department for Degree and Major changes. ISSS will be notified once the change is made.

• Add or Remove a Spouse or Dependant

  Please email us at fvisa@ucsc.edu if you wish to add or remove a spouse or dependant.

• Significant changes in Funding

  Please email us at fvisa@ucsc.edu if your funding source and amount changes.

• Address Changes

  International Students are required by the USCIS to update their local address within 10 days. The law requires students to list the address where they are physically living. All F-1 and J-1 students must have a current, local address listed in the SEVIS database.

  To update your address at UCSC and in SEVIS, login to https://my.ucsc.edu and enter your residential address under the MAILING Address Section. Include a mail box number or apartment number. The ISSS office receives this data and we will update your SEVIS record for you. Please note, we can only receive the data if you update the information in the "mailing address" section of the portal.

  Important...

  • Never use a P.O. Box or UCSC Department addresses, you must use the address where you are living in the U.S.
  • Use only 5 digits for the Zip Code. Do NOT enter the 4 digit extension or any other numbers in the zip code.
  • Your address in your home country should be entered under the Permanent Address section of the portal. Do not put your foreign address in the Mailing section.
