The appropriate visa for business visitors is B1/B2 and the appropriate status upon entry to the U.S. is B-1. The visitor must present his/her passport and a copy of both sides of the I-94 shortly after arrival at UCSC.
| B1 Cover Letter to Visitor | Use this sample to create a letter informing the prospective B1 visitor of your department's intention to invite him or her to the United States and pay expenses or honorarium as allowed by government regulations. It is the visitor's obligation to actually submit the materials to a U.S. consulate. |
| B1 Invitation Letter | Use this sample to create the actual invitation letter, which the visitor needs to submit with the passport and visa application to a U.S. consulate. The host department writes the letter, which will be enclosed with the cover letter above. The visitor uses the invitation when applying for the visa at the consulate. He or she also presents it, along with the passport, to the immigration inspector at the port of entry to the U.S. |
